The cloud, outsourcing, and Chinese medicine.

The cloud represents a technological approach or standardised offers, rather distant from the outsourcing of global infrastructure and tailor-made. A distinction necessary to decrypt the levers on these markets, with Guillaume Berko, Sales Director at Ikoula.

How do you see outsourcing and cloud?
In traditional outsourcing, our mission is to maintain and oversee infrastructure hardware and software to ensure an optimal business continuity to our customers. From my point of view, cloud concerns rather the way one thinks it infrastructure. To put it otherwise, outsourcing is a service delivery, while cloud is a technological approach integrating various mechanisms like virtualization, dynamic allocation of resources, the multitenant, etc.
Even though in our outsourcing offers we propose of course companies to use fully all these technologies.

However, SaaS is also a form of outsourcing...
Take the example of Enterprise Messaging.
In a traditional internal approach, the DSI purchased one or more servers, licenses, and had to manage the whole: hardware, software, deployment, support, maintenance and updates.
As a first step, the companies have chosen to outsource their equipment and to manage and oversee by specialists. And very quickly, they asked the same thing for the software infrastructure and service.
In almost all cases, the client business outsourcing buys an all-inclusive service. It is sold well providing 'all' inclusive package including hardware, software, service and the Council.
The SaaS model is shared and is based on a shared infrastructure. Outsourcing concerns rather the made-to-measure. With SaaS, the company must define its need to "enter into the boxes" of what is proposed. In addition, SaaS is generally monoapplicatif.

For what other reasons a different economic model is it justified?
Economic SaaS (or IaaS) model consists of proposing to use billing, outsourcing in which all parameters are clearly very different and contractually defined and framed, upward and downward, etc.
Generally, this package contract benefit from the experience of the Outsourcer who knows and predict various levels in order to define the modalities leading to a balance between profitability and the cost to the company.
Because incidents can cause very severe penalties for the Outsourcer. Without flat rate billing, the system causes perverse effects. In the old model, the company had remediation tickets and then had to buy if necessary. In short, over there were incidents, more the client paid.
To save money, we must anticipate in order to minimize possible incidents. A bit like Chinese doctors who are paid that if their client is doing well, and who have therefore every interest to maintain to the best of their form at all times.
